Day 1: Arrive in Tromso

Arrive in Tromso and transfer to your hotel. There are endless possibilities in Tromso – just let us know if you would like assistance planning your arrival day!

Day 2: Tromso to Senja Island

Take a boat from Tromso to Finnsnes (3 pm or later depending on the day of the week * ferry paid locally). The journey takes about 75 minutes and gives you a sea-level view of the stunning scenery. Be picked up at the boat terminal in Finnsnes, and drive across the island to your apartment accommodations at Mefjord Brygge. Dinner is served at the maritime-styled restaurant. A short briefing and introduction will be provided this evening, leaving time to relax before you head to bed.

Day 3: Senja Island

After breakfast, meet with your guide who will talk you through the next couple of days, specifically the current season and weather conditions. Your day’s activities could include the following: an Arctic Boat Safari to see wildlife and the marine landscape (about 3 hours), lunch, relaxing at Mefjordvaer, and an independent snowshoeing trip (weather permitting). A traditional Norwegian dinner will be served in the early evening. Tonight, your guide will take you to remote locations to get away from light pollution and chase the elusive Northern Lights. Pure magic!

Day 4: Senja Island

After breakfast, continue exploring the island. Depending on the weather, you can take a bus/boat/snowshoeing trip to see more of Senja’s nature. In case of “bad” weather, there is a special minibus trip that showcases the power of the Norwegian Sea and the harsh Arctic coast (about 3 hours). Lunch in-route or at Mefjord Brygge. Dinner is served at the restaurant this evening. More time for exploring this evening, with your guide providing interesting facts about Senja’s nature. Consider finishing off the day by relaxing in the sauna!

Day 5: Departure on Hurtigruten/Coastal Steamer

Enjoy your last breakfast at Mefjord Brygge this morning, and at 10:00am drive back to the Finnsnes boat terminal. At 11:45am, board the Hurtigruten ship and begin your sailing journey north. Join in whale watching, dog sledding, hiking and learn about the country’s fascinating polar history. Or join a kayaking excursion, where you can admire this beautiful Arctic city from a different perspective. Today’s suggested excursions (not included/inquire): All year: The Arctic Capital of Tromso. Summer: Whale watching.

Day 6: Coastal Steamer – Oksfjord to Berlevag

Enjoy the magnificent landscape as we continue our journey toward the North Cape. In Honningsvag, you can join a cultural walk through the town and be charmed by the colorful buildings. You will then sail through the heart of the Sami homeland to the port of Kjollefjord, an area famous for its rich birdlife. Enjoy the sub-Arctic landscape as we cross the 71st parallel north, and be sure to take this opportunity to experience the North Cape - the northernmost point on the continent.

Day 7: Arrival in Kirkenes

Early birds can see Vadso and just after breakfast we arrive in Kirkenes, putting us at 30° East, further east than Istanbul and St. Petersburg. Go directly from the Hurtigruten boat to a fabulous King Crab Safari. Learn how to catch, prepare and eat these giants as you sail along the fjord and the Barents Sea. A true Northern Norway experience.

Day 8: Kirkenes

Explore the Norwegian tundra by snowmobile! The diverse arctic landscape makes for a surreal experience, with frozen fjords, sparse tundra stretching for miles, and the majestic pine forest and frozen lakes of the Pasvik Valley. This evening, transfer to the airport for your flight to Oslo. Be sure to keep an eye out for the Northern Lights! Upon arrival to the Oslo airport, independent transfer to your hotel.

Day 9: Depart Norway

After breakfast, independent transfer back to the Oslo airport.
